Tyers Soccer Club was founded in 1982 by Alan Meredith (then President), Dr Robin
Widdowson (Secretary/Treasurer) and Ken Barton (Coach). They were joined by Sheila Barton,
Helen Cawcutt, Alan Ness, John Venturoni, and Judy Membrey – who were all local Tyers
families at the time.
The Tyers Soccer Club started with junior teams only in U8 and U10 and started playing on the
school football oval until the Tyers Recreation Reserve allowed land to be used as a soccer pitch
in 1984.
Lawn mowers were used to mow the pitch, car boots were used to sell canteen style food, the
change rooms were a donated disused turbine box from Loy Yang and the goals were
handmade by the founding families.
Barton was the first coach of the Tyers Soccer Club.
The club progressed to U12s by 1992 and from there, progressed as the kids grew to full junior
teams.
In 1986, the original pavilion was built after securing a major grant from the Latrobe City
Council – including the canteen and toilets and open change room.
It was then extended a few years later to house home-and-away change rooms with showers.
In 1996, the club entered its first senior team with Simon Tanti as Coach and Jenny Uren as
President.
In 2010, the club had its first senior womens team who were final series champions from fourth
on the ladder.
In 2011, two major lighting towers were installed after securing another grant.
In 2013, thanks to successfully securing another grant from the council, a new pavilion was built
along the original pavilion for home-and-away change rooms and a referee room.
Since its humble beginnings, the club is a growing community and continues to welcome new
members each year.
In 2020 with the support of Latrobe City Council
and Latrobe Valley Authority, Tyers added all abilities access to the ground
and around the changerooms, while in 2021 saw the upgrade of the social
rooms. The conclusion of the 2023 saw the long-awaited upgrade to the drainage of our pitch thanks to Latrobe City Council. Future plans include the addition of more lights to the ground, a women's only change rooms and an additional pitch, 2026 will see the toilet block upgraded.
In Season 2026, Tyers aims to field
teams in U6's, U7's, U9's, U11's, U13's, U15's & U17's in the Junior competition
of the FVLV, and a Senior Women's and Men's in the FVLV Senior Competition.
